Project Felci Yacht Design
The new ICE 52 RS is born.
As standard: carbon/glass construction, Hall Spars carbon rig, carbon rudder shaft, and super lightened interiors.
Ice Yachts is ready to introduce on the market the sporty version of ICE52, that since the Genova Boat Show (October 2015) has already sold 18 units.
ICE 52 RS, directly developed by the studio of Umberto Felci, together with the technical staff of the shipyard led by Enrico Malingri, is a fast cruiser dedicated to the most competitive owners who demand top performance from their boat in regattas and a possible use in cruising at the same time.
The modern lines feature a reverse bow (scimitar) with a carbon bowsprit of optional length between 1.3 and 1.8 meters in the full race version, and a Volvo Open 70 inspired stern (smile), which comes directly from the ICE 33 racer, launched by the shipyard in June 2014 and already on the market with five units.
On the hydrodynamic level, the water lines and appendages, characterized by an unprecedented draft of 3 meters, are designed to achieve outstanding performances, with impressive results that highlight the aptitude of ICE 52 in sailing both sharp angles upwind and planning fast downwind. Besides, the engine cruising speed reaches 9.2 knots!
To ensure these performances, high technologies applied in the construction are combined to the most extraordinary quality of craftsmanship performed by our technicians who have gained experience in many years of activity dedicated to the realization of boats that have written the history of sailing.
The shell and the deck are laminated in infusion one step from the female mold using hybrid fibers of glass and carbon in epoxy infusion, while the carbon structures are laminated in place and in infusion as well, becoming one with hull and deck. These choices, as well as containing the weights, give the boat a solidity and robustness able to withstand the repeated stresses and heavy loads faced in the most challenging regattas.
ICE 52 RS is equipped with a Weldox steel fin with high mechanical properties and a lead bulb CNC (Computer Numerical Control) shape, which offer the advantage to reduce the weight of the ballast and, therefore, the total displacement of the boat, with the same righting moment.
Therefore, it displays exceptional power in the gaits in which this is fundamental and minimum displacement in the ones that represent a brake, such as the carrying gaits and motor navigation. All this enables maintaining very high averages in all conditions, whether racing or cruising, sailing or motoring.
The rudder is equipped with several carbon shafts and allows impressive control even when the boat is heeling or subjected to heavy aerodynamic loads. Ice Yachts always acknowledges its attention towards the theme of safety, central to both its design and construction. The deck reflects Felci Yacht Design projects’ general lines, combining simplicity and style, elegance and efficiency, comfort, and versatility.
Compared to the standard 52, the deck equipment has been increased and adapted to the greater expected loads. The standard Hall Spars carbon rig is equipped with two tiers of spreaders and can also be supplied with a high module. The backstay is Reckmann.
The cockpit is characterized by large benches and comfortable paramare backrests, is oversize, and allows maximum mobility for large crews.
Moreover, there are many details that highlight how the analysis of the deck has been conducted in the search for a synthesis between an ideal deck for a relaxed cruising life and that pregnant with marinity and efficiency, necessary during a long-range navigation or a regatta.
Following this same philosophy, the sail plan is characterized by a genoa without overlap, the absence of flying shrouds, and by the attachment of the mainsails, made directly in carbon and positioned right on the hull.
Thanks to the technologies employed for the realization of the interiors, such as the use of lightened panels, it is possible to obtain a considerable saving of weight compared to a traditional realization, without renouncing to the quality of the carpentry work, both in the refinement of finishes and in the excellence of details.
Compared to the standard ICE52 model, the ICE52RS version has a whole weight reduction of about 1600 Kgs, thanks to lithium batteries’ installation as well, which are not part of the standard equipment.
The shipyard’s technicians are available to illustrate and show the construction quality of the real Made in Italy and the attention to detail that only a product born from the design and the Italian manufacture tradition is able to offer.
